Thinking about doing a club run?
People who enjoy cycling are sometimes reluctant to join clubs because they feel that they will be left behind. Come along on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and we will ensure that there is a run to suit your ability. You will learn so much from experienced cyclists in a very short time. Furthermore you will enjoy the banter as you go along. You should also read this excellent post on our message board about what it is like to be in a club like Phoenix.
As well as learning about cycling, joining a club will mean that you are insured through Cycling Ireland - most of your club fees go to Cycling Ireland and not to Phoenix. Membership covers a calendar year so the sooner you join on or before 1st January maximises your cover for the year.
The fees are:
Introductory - £33 (for new members who want to ride with the club but not compete)
Cycling member - £50 (non competition for existing members)
Club competition - £80 (for those who want to do club races and time trials)
Restricted - £107 (those who want to race with the club but also do all clubs' MTB races and/or Time Trials etc)
Open Competition - £138 (allows you to compete in all claub races and TTs but also any other 'open' race or TT anywhere in Ireland
U 14 - £5 [no Phoenix levy]
Full comp U 16 - £30 [no Phoenix levy]
Junior comp (U 23) - £44 [no Phoenix levy]
There are no Phoenix fees for those in full time education plus cycling Ireland allow 50% reduction for such riders
Overseas Authorisation - £18

Club runs this month
Every Saturday and Sunday we have club runs which cater for different levels of ability. The runs start at 9.30am at the House of Sport car park Upper Malone Road. Newcomers are very welcome and enquiries can be made to Billy or Larry (phone numbers on this page). On Saturdays there are normally runs catering for all abilities A, B1, B2 and C. From October to December the A and B runs make their way to Oxford Island where everyone enjoys a scone and tea or coffee. The Sunday runs split up depending on the amount of riders who turn up.
On Tuesday evenings there are mountain bike runs that leave the Shaws Bridge car park at 6.45 pm. There are usually two groups (depending on numbers) and each group usually contains two experienced riders who know the routes and can explain the make up of the trails as the runs progress. The B group is ideal for those new to mountain biking and is a great way to introduce yourself to this discipline. It should be stressed that these mountain bike runs are not official Phoenix club runs, though many of the participants do belong to the club. To do these runs it is essential to have good lights and as they are mainly attended by club cyclists, a reasonable level of fitness would be expected.
For more details on all these runs keep an eye on the club message board as threads are always started in advance of the runs with last minute details posted etc.
New Members Welcome
