Phoenix Cycling club is proud to announce the launch of the Irish cyclocross championships to be held in Lady Dixons Park Belfast, Sun 12th Jan 2014

Phoenix CC (Belfast) will be hosting the event for the first time in association with McConvey cycles. Belfast City council parks department have kindly granted access to a fantastic setting and the club aims to put on a great days racing for competitors and spectators alike.

Like all forms of cycling, cyclocross is experiencing a big increase in popularity in past few years.  The recent Ulster series has seen record numbers participate in the senior cyclocross races plus support races for younger riders.

For those new to the sport, Cyclo-cross racing racing is run on a course which has multiple surfaces – tarmac, single track, grass, mud, sand.  Riders have steep banks, steps and obstacles to overcome and often have to run or carry the bike.
Races last up to 1 hour and due to the compact nature of the courses, spectators get the chance to be right up close to the action.

Phoenix CC look forward to welcoming as many spectators as possible – the racing is great to watch so come along and support the riders.
(And if you do, please note that the use of cowbells, horns and whistles etc. will be actively encouraged!!!!! – the more noise the better)
