Ulster CX round 7 – Larne

After very wet and muddy conditions in round 6, and similar at last years race in Larne, the riders could have been forgiven for expecting round 7 of the 2013 series to be another mudfest.  But as it turned out, the weather was fine and and course was in great condition.

In the main race of the day, Rory Maguire underlined the potential he has shown throughout the entire series with an excellent 3rd place, behind current national champion Roger Aiken, and Ronan McLaughlin recently retired from Sean Kelly-An Post team. A fantastic result and great bounce back from the disappointment of mechanical failure in round 6. Well done Rory.

Cathal Smyth had a fine race finishing in 5th and taking the first unplaced veteran prize. Alex Donald was not far behind in 6th.  Gill Smith held off strong challenge to place 2nd in womens race.   In the B-race, Davd Maitland had his best result of series coming in 12th.

Shea O’Kane continued his fine run of form with 3rd place in the U10.  While Moya O’Kane just missed out on podium after another clean sweep by VC Glendale girls in the U8.

Thanks to Madigan for a great days racing.

Well done to all the riders.  Next up is the Ulster Championships with plenty of medal possibilities for Phoenix.
